Crimson Desert Update 1.08.00 Patch Notes: Tool Slots and Wyverns

Pearl Abyss has released update version 1.08.00 for Crimson Desert, introducing a dedicated equipment slot for tools, a brand-new pond construction mechanic, and a Baby Wyvern pet. This update targets key gameplay systems and character balance while offering several quality-of-life adjustments to the open-world adventure. Following the previous Crimson Desert update 1.07, which added new boss rematches, this patch continues to expand the game’s sandbox capabilities.

Crimson Desert is an open-world action-adventure role-playing game developed and published by Pearl Abyss, currently available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This latest update is part of the developer’s ongoing support cycle as the game continues to build on its success after hitting a massive Crimson Desert Steam reviews milestone.

When Does Crimson Desert Update 1.08.00 Go Live?

The Crimson Desert update version 1.08.00 went live on May 22, 2026, at 08:05 UTC, as reported by Store.steampowered. The patch is rolling out across all platforms, with the update currently available for Steam (PC), PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store. Pearl Abyss noted in its official patch notes that the Mac versions of the update, including Steam (Mac) and the Mac App Store, are currently in progress and will be made available at a later time.

New Additions

The biggest systemic change in version 1.08.00 is the addition of a dedicated slot to equip tools. Previously, players had to use their secondary weapon slot for these utility items, which limited combat options. The newly added tool slot resides in the quickslot menu, directly below the secondary weapon slot, and utilizes a quick swap function to switch to the previously drawn equipment.

  • Equippable tools: logging axe, mallet, shovel, broom, scythe, pickaxe, drill/chainsaw, and fan.
  • Quickslot reorganization: Quickslots for masks and circlets have been moved to the armor tab of the quickslot menu.
  • Pond construction: Players can now build a pond at Howling Hill and Pailune Camp by completing a specific pond construction mission. Once built, fish from the player’s inventory can be released into the pond directly or managed via the pond management mode.
  • Fish breeding and legendary fish: Having multiple fish of the same species in the pond will gradually increase their population, with rates varying by species. Players can zoom in or out in management mode to observe them. Be careful, as fish may die if the pond’s capacity is exceeded. Legendary fish, however, have infinite lifespans, are capped at one per pond, and can no longer be sold, used, or discarded. Any previously sold, used, or discarded legendary fish have been restored to player inventories.
  • Baby Wyvern and pet additions: The update introduces 20 species of small animals alongside a Baby Wyvern that can be registered as pets. Pearl Abyss confirmed that Baby Wyverns will grow and become mountable in a future update. For now, wild Wyverns can be temporarily used as mounts once they are subdued.
  • Character combat updates: The character Kliff can now equip and use muskets and shotguns, while Damiane and Oongka have received a skill equivalent to the Focused Aerial Roll.
  • Outlaw silencing: A new function allows players to silence tied-up outlaws, preventing unwanted noise during transport.
  • Refinement blueprints: Added blueprints that allow players to craft superior branches using special tree branches and branches at refinement level 10.

Main Improvements

In addition to new features, version 1.08.00 introduces extensive quality-of-life adjustments to crafting, resource gathering, and visual assets to streamline the overall gameplay experience.

  • Instant refinement: Players can now instantly refine equipment using a selected refinement method without having to manually select materials. This dramatically speeds up gear progression.
  • New missions and rewards: Added the Mass Craft Paintings and Craft Fine Paintings missions. Furthermore, logging and quarry missions now reward players with timber and stones.
  • Claw machine adjustments: The size of items inside claw machine capsules has been adjusted so players can view prizes more clearly.
  • Resource changes: Tree branches obtained from logging trees have been changed to rough tree branches, which can be stacked and used in crafting.
  • Abyss gear scaling: The Infinite Arrows Abyss gear has been upgraded to function for both bullets and cannonballs, making it highly versatile for ranged builds.
  • Cat carrying: Cats can now be taken in even when they are being carried by the player.
  • Furniture interaction: Chairs placed during house decoration have been improved so that characters sit on them with more natural animations.
  • Barber shop preview: For keyboard and mouse users, hovering the mouse over different options at the Barber now allows players to preview each style before purchasing.
  • World events: Re-blockades will now occur at bandit camps and ruins, giving players more opportunities for combat encounters.
  • Puzzle adjustments: The puzzle experience at the Disconnected Truth Abyss has been improved for better flow.
  • Cooking separation: Griddle-cooked and pan-fried dishes have been separated into distinct fish, meat, and vegetable variants.
  • Fish traps: Improved fish traps so that fish can now be caught with them properly.
  • Visual and armor updates: Certain 2D visual assets have been replaced to better align with the game’s art direction. Additionally, Kliff has received visual improvements to the appearance of certain helms, and the silhouette of the Belkandor Plate Armor has been adjusted.

What This Patch Means for Players

Update 1.08.00 represents a major step forward in making Crimson Desert feel like a more lived-in, functional sandbox. By separating tools from weapon slots, Pearl Abyss has resolved a major inventory management pain point, while the new pond construction and pet systems give players a satisfying loop of passive resource management and collection outside of main combat encounters.
