Dune: Awakening Update 1.4.0.0 Adds Self Hosted Servers

Dune: Awakening Update 1.4.0.0 Adds Self Hosted Servers

The latest major update for Dune: Awakening has officially arrived, introducing highly requested self-hosted private servers, two brand-new locations on the Overland Map, and the industrial Water Wars DLC. Alongside these major features, developer Funcom has released the 1.4.0.1 hotfix to resolve critical launch issues, adjust crafting requirements, and rebalance weapon behaviors on Arrakis. These updates, which went live on May 19, 2026 and May 21, 2026, represent a significant step forward for the survival MMO as reported by the official source.

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO developed and published by Funcom, currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Set on the hostile desert planet of Arrakis, the game challenges players to survive extreme heat, massive sandworms, and rival factions. Much like navigating the deep waters in the Subnautica 2 Rebreather Location Guide, conquering the harsh dunes of Arrakis requires careful preparation, resource management, and the right equipment.

New Content and Features

The headline feature of Update 1.4.0.0 is the introduction of self-hosted servers, which are now available under the Experimental tab in the server browser. This early iteration allows players to host their own Dune: Awakening worlds on their personal machines, with more server settings and optimizations planned for future updates. Additionally, players can now explore two new Overland Map locations, each bringing fresh Landsraad missions:

  • The Wind Pass: Once a Harkonnen tech hub, this area has become a vital strategic point in Arrakis’ water trade, currently controlled by the Water Shippers.
  • The Old Quarry Testing Station: A hidden laboratory where players will confront the morally questionable scientist, Dr. Jalanta.

Additionally, Funcom resolved a major progression issue where players who betrayed their faction at rank 20 were forced to replay faction content for their newly joined faction.

Balance Changes

Several gameplay systems and combat mechanics have been adjusted to improve the overall player experience. The developers have balanced resource costs, combat stamina, and weapon behaviors across the board:

  • Abomination AI: The behavior of Abominations has been adjusted to make them less aggressive, making these hostile creatures slightly easier to fight in the desert.
  • Experimental Lightning Gun: Fixed a bug that allowed the weapon to fire six shots at a time instead of the intended three, bringing its damage output back in line.
  • Stamina Adjustments: The base stamina cost of performing a dash has been reduced from 40 to 30, allowing for more fluid movement during high-stakes combat.
  • Spice-powered Generator: To make this power option more attractive, the crafting cost of Spice-Infused Fuel cells has been reduced. The required Spice Residue has dropped from 65 to 48, and Irradiated Slag has decreased from three to two.
  • Recycler Buffs: Recycler inventory slots have been increased from 20 to 25, while the maximum volume storage capacity has been significantly boosted from 100 to 300.

Bug Fixes and Hotfixes

Following the release of the 1.4.0.0 update, the 1.4.0.1 hotfix was deployed on May 21, 2026, to address server stability and character transfer rules. When transferring characters to self-hosted servers, players will no longer copy their characters; instead, characters are moved to the target server and deleted from the origin server to match regular transfer rules. A new confirmation pop-up also alerts players if they attempt to transfer while leaving vehicles or bases behind.

The update also delivers a massive sweep of fixes for building, crafting, combat, and user interface elements:

  • Building and Crafting Fixes: Fixed an issue where the Duneman Garage Door incorrectly used the Smugglers Garage Door asset. Players who built one after 1.4.0.0 must demolish and rebuild it. The Watershippers Wide Passageway now correctly requires Granite instead of Plastone. The Smugglers Building Set now correctly includes the Prudence Door.
  • Uncraftable Gear Resolved: Fixed bugs preventing the crafting of the Combat Exoskeleton Chestpiece, Phantom Whisper Helm, and Phantom Whisper Chestpiece. Furthermore, players can now craft the Penetrator, Hook Claw Gloves, Executor’s Boots, and Desert Garb uniques at grade five.
  • Snapping and Placement: The Water Shipper Roof Corner and Round Corner building pieces now snap correctly. Pillars and columns can also connect to the outer leg of the Water Shipper Arch.
  • Combat Adjustments: Fixed the Lasgun Concentrator augment applying its rate of fire decrease twice. NPCs’ projectiles will no longer fail to penetrate the Attractor Field, and NPCs will no longer use Suspensor Grenades in Testing Station 195.
  • Visual and UI Updates: Fixed Feyd‘s Spare Blades animation and positioning. The Water Shipper Scout Ornithopter Variant interior now displays the correct mesh. Additionally, the custom tab on the server browser has been renamed to Private, and the missing Tray A Deez Salute (Awoo) emote has been restored for beta participants.

What This Patch Means for Players

Update 1.4.0.0 and its subsequent hotfix represent a massive quality-of-life boost for the Dune: Awakening community. By introducing self-hosted servers, Funcom is giving players unprecedented control over their survival environments. Meanwhile, the sweeping fixes to broken crafting recipes and snapping behaviors ensure that base building and high-tier progression feel rewarding rather than frustrating as players continue to carve out their legacy on Arrakis.
