Company of Heroes 3 Hot Fix 2.4.2 Fixes Flakvierling Suppression

The latest update for Relic Entertainment’s tactical strategy game: Company of Heroes 3 addresses critical exploits and balance issues affecting several prominent units. Specifically, Hot Fix 2.4.2 fixes the Flakvierling Halftrack’s ability to suppress units while on the move and reels in the unintended camouflage bonuses granted to SSB Commandos. These changes aim to restore competitive integrity to multiplayer matches where these exploits were heavily utilized.

Company of Heroes 3 is a real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sega, currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S since its initial launch in 2023. As published on the official Steam community hub and reported by Relic, this hotfix focuses heavily on correcting combat modifiers and deployment bugs that disrupted multiplayer balance.

What is Fixed in Company of Heroes 3 Hot Fix 2.4.2?

Company of Heroes 3 Hot Fix 2.4.2 primarily fixes bugs related to unit suppression, incorrect veterancy bonuses, and overpowered camouflage modifiers for the SSB Commandos. The patch resolves several mechanical oversights that allowed certain vehicles and infantry squads to perform far beyond their intended design parameters.

General Changes

  • Fixed an issue where the Flakvierling Halftrack was able to suppress units while moving.

Jay’s Commentary: This fix prevents the Flakvierling from completely shutting down infantry pushes without having to lock down its position first, restoring proper counterplay.

  • Fixed an issue where the Battlefield Espionage Battlegroup applied additional offensive bonuses to certain units that were camouflaged.

Jay’s Commentary: This stops sneaky tactics from granting unintended combat advantages during opening engagements.

  • Fixed an issue where the 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen got the 251 Medium Carrier’s veterancy bonuses for planting Riegel mines at Veterancy 3.

Jay’s Commentary: This corrects an oversight where the flame-throwing variant inherited utility traits meant strictly for the standard transport.

  • A.I. will no longer use the Skirmisher Package Rifle Grenades without the Skirmisher Package.

Jay’s Commentary: Computer-controlled opponents will now play by the same upgrade rules as human players.

  • Fixed an issue where the Sturmtiger was failing to destroy abandoned team weapons and emplacements at the point of impact as intended.

Jay’s Commentary: The massive rocket-propelled mortar should now reliably clear out leftover field equipment.

  • Fixed an issue where Tungsten Rounds caused the Panzer III N’s short 75mm to fire a direct-fire projectile.

Jay’s Commentary: This ensures the tank’s ballistic trajectory behaves correctly when using specialized ammunition. For players who enjoy tactical armor battles, optimizing your experience is key, much like configuring the optimal World of Tanks graphics settings for maximum performance.

  • Fixed issue where Elite Forces, Crack Armor weapon swap can cause loss of tungsten core weapon on that vehicle.

Jay’s Commentary: Players will no longer accidentally delete their hard-earned weapon upgrades when switching loadouts.

SSB Commando Adjustments

The developers noted that they are partially fixing a bug with the SSB Commandos that saw them get more bonuses than intended from camouflage. However, they are keeping their ambush bonuses higher than other ambush troops due to their low durability, high opportunity cost to make them strong, and the fact that the Battlegroup lacks a traditional strong late game.

  • Fixed an issue where the SSB Commandos would get a speed boost when attacking from camouflage at Veterancy 3.

Jay’s Commentary: This prevents these units from chasing down retreating foes with an unintended speed advantage.

  • Fixed an issue where the unit got two First-Strike bonus modifiers.

Jay’s Commentary: This eliminates a double-dipping bug that allowed the commandos to melt opposing squads instantly.

  • SSB Commando camouflage First-Strike modifiers increased from 25% damage and 40% accuracy to 40% damage and 75% accuracy (could previously reach +56.3% damage and +96% accuracy).

Jay’s Commentary: While this represents a raw nerf from the bugged state, it still leaves the commandos with formidable ambush capabilities.

Known Issues Under Investigation

The team at Relic is constantly reviewing issues reported by the community and adjusting priorities to address the most frequently occurring issues. Players encountering further bugs can submit reports directly to the developer’s portal to help shape future hotfixes.

What This Patch Means for Players

This update restores competitive integrity to multiplayer matches by removing several game-breaking unit exploits. Players relying on mobile Flakvierling suppression or bugged SSB Commando ambush bonuses will need to adjust their tactical approaches immediately, as these units will no longer over-perform in skirmishes.
