Slay the Spire 2 Update Removes The Doormaker, Adds Aeonglass

Mega Crit has detailed the latest round of updates for the beta branch of its highly anticipated sequel, including the replacement of a major boss and a shift in how frequently patches will roll out. Specifically, the developers are swapping out the complex boss The Doormaker for a new encounter called Aeonglass while transitioning beta updates to a bi-weekly release schedule. Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder developed and published by Mega Crit, currently available in Early Access on PC.

According to the official May 2026 Neowsletter published on Store.steampowered, these changes are designed to give the growing testing community more time to digest and provide feedback on gameplay adjustments. Much like we have seen with other highly anticipated follow-ups like Subnautica 2, developers are taking extra care to polish core mechanics during early testing phases rather than rushing out updates.

When Do Slay the Spire 2 Beta Patches Go Live?

Beta patches for Slay the Spire 2 will now go live on a bi-weekly cadence, moving away from the weekly schedule used during the original game’s development. Mega Crit noted that the weekly pace was difficult to maintain and did not give the expanded player base enough time to thoroughly test and absorb the balance changes. Consequently, main branch updates will also become slightly more infrequent to ensure stability.

New Content

  • The Bestiary Added to the Compendium: Players can now access a full list of in-game enemies along with their move animations on the beta branch. Detailed statistical information will be added to this feature in a future update.
  • Aeonglass Boss Introduced: A brand-new boss encounter has been added to the beta branch, completely replacing the previous boss.

The addition of the Bestiary is a massive quality-of-life upgrade that will help players study enemy patterns without needing to rely on external wikis. Meanwhile, the arrival of Aeonglass shows that the developers are willing to iterate rapidly on major encounters to find the perfect mechanical balance.

Balance Changes

  • Removal of The Doormaker: The developers have removed The Doormaker boss from the beta branch. While the boss offered interesting micro-decision-making scenarios, Mega Crit felt the encounter was ultimately too complex for the game’s current design goals.

Removing a boss entirely is a bold balance decision, but it ensures that the game’s core encounters remain elegant rather than overwhelming. Players who still wish to fight The Doormaker can do so on the main branch, where the boss will remain available until the next major main-branch update rolls out.

Spire Stats and Community Highlights

Mega Crit also shared some staggering metrics from the community’s time with the sequel so far. At the time of publication, players have logged a massive 240,000,000 runs, resulting in 60.5 million wins and 179.5 million losses, which averages out to a highly respectable 25% win rate. On Ascension 0 (A0), the average win rate sits at 16% (a significant jump from the 9% seen in the first game), while Ascension 10 (A10) boasts a 17% win rate compared to the brutal 3% win rate of Ascension 20 in the original title. Character popularity remains incredibly balanced, with players showing roughly equal love to all heroes, though the starting characters Ironclad and Silent hold a very slight lead.

In addition to gameplay stats, several community events and promotions were highlighted:

  • Devour the Tower Tournament: The first major community-led co-op tournament for Slay the Spire 2 will take place on May 25, 2026. The 4-player competition will feature 34 streamers and will be co-casted by FrostPrime and Otzdarva on Twitch.
  • The Silent Hoodie Pre-order: Mega Crit has partnered with Makeship to release official apparel based on the iconic garb of The Silent. Pre-orders are open until May 29, 2026, at 5:00 AM PST.
  • Community Tools: The update highlighted community-run statistics and guide platforms, specifically Spiracle and Spire Codex, which offer extensive tools for players looking to optimize their runs.

What This Patch Means for Players

This update signals a transition toward a more deliberate, polished development cycle for Slay the Spire 2 as it finds its footing in Early Access. Players on the beta branch will immediately notice a more streamlined boss roster with the arrival of Aeonglass, alongside better in-game tools to track their enemies. The slower update cadence means each patch will likely be larger and more impactful, giving the community ample time to master the changing meta.
